SUBJECT: PS41 PTA Bulletin - Week of 5/29/2023

PS41 Families!

Hakuna Matata! The excitement for the musical performances has been steadily building -- back for the first time since June 2019! If you have not yet gotten tickets for one of the Lion King Kids performances, you can purchase them before dropoff or at the door (note: Thursday is sold out!). General admission is a suggested price of $15. All our 5th graders are either in the cast or crew so it's truly a full team effort. Also, a big shout to those 5th grade parents who have volunteered -- we've seen the many hours you've spent and we know this amazing event couldn't have happened with out your involvement.  As with much that distinguishes PS41 from other schools, funding for the musical is provided by the PTA, 5th grade fundraising events and contributions.

Thanks to those who have paid for their children's 2023-2024 school supplies (if you have not yet done so, the link is still active) -- teachers' orders are arriving daily and ready to be prepped in the upcoming clerical days the students are off from school. Who's grateful that they don't have to rush around purchasing notebooks and folders in the back to school rush and replenishing pencils throughout the year? Thank you, teachers, for taking this off our plates!

Best,

Sara Tranter & Melissa Valdes, PS41 PTA Co-Presidents (pta@ps41.org)

End of Year Staff/Teacher Gifts

The PS41 experience is unparalleled because of all of the teachers and staff that really care about our students. They go above and beyond each and everyday.

Your Class Parents are collecting for your classroom teachers and para professionals (see your weekly Class Parent email for details). If you would like to contribute to a pool to purchase gift cards for additional building staff (about 60 people) please vemno the Executive Board Members listed below.  Deadline for all collections is June 11.  Gifts will be distributed the week of June 19th. Donations are kept confidential (only the person you venmo will know).

  • Specialty Teachers, Custodians, & Security Staff (Venmo @Sarah-Zgliniec)
  • All other office, administrative and support staff (Venmo @Libby-Graf-2)

Please note that your participation in all end of the year gifting is entirely voluntary and there is no set minimum or maximum contribution amount.   Most importantly, whether your family decides to participate or not, any gifts given by Class Parents and the PTA will be given on behalf of the entire community. Individual teacher or staff gifts on behalf of one family are prohibited.  Please don't put our teachers and staff in an awkward position by giving them something outside of these gifting pools.  They are not allowed to accept them. If your child would like to give a card or small craft project, as a thank you, that is okay.

Lost and Found -- Thursday and Friday @ Drop Off

Is your child missing a DUSC jacket? The Lost & Found has two.  What about your PS41 merch? The Lost & Found will be on display tomorrow and Friday at drop off at the main entrance. Here are pictures of the current items.  Please remember to label your child's clothing- especially the layers that get taken off.  All it takes is a Sharpie.  If you want to get fancy, you can order stick on labels. Items not picked up by the end of the June will be donated.

School Store -- Friday @ Drop Off

As Thom's community update shared, "School Spirit Day, Color Day, is scheduled for Friday, June 23.  We love this day, as it shows unity across each grade, with students from the same grade wearing the same color, and also shows unity across the school, as we all come together to form a beautiful rainbow.  Students can wear t-shirts, socks, accessories."

These are the grade colors:

  • 3K: teal

  • Pre-K: pink

  • Kindergarten: orange

  • 1st Grade: yellow

  • 2nd Grade: purple

  • 3rd Grade: red

  • 4th Grade: blue

  • 5th Grade: green

You can wear your own colored shirts or stop by the school store this Friday, June 2 or Friday, June 16th at drop off to pick up a PS41 branded shirt.

Character Education

PS41's May Character Education Trait is COURAGE -- Being able to face challenging situations with confidence.

In May, students will learn that we need courage when we are afraid to do something, but know it’s what we should do. While we all need courage, it may be difficult to know when and what others are afraid of. Students will show respect for their classmates because they want them to be courageous, learning new things rather than being afraid of making a mistake. We will practice finding the courage to stand up for ourselves and others.

Home-to-School Connection
